A Tempest off Matiu-Somes Island!
Mystical creatures and grotesque monsters - created by award-winning makeup artists and costume designers - will take audience members on a journey over turbulent seas and through the massive labyrinthine Animal Quarantine Station on Matiu-Somes Island.
From the moment the audience steps onto the ferry at Queen’s Wharf they are become part of the action; and over the course of the performance will come face to face with the natural and historical wonders of the Island which are woven into the show.
From the hilarious plots of murderous drunks, to the lustful romance of young lovers, and the trickery of forest spirits, Shakespeare’s wonderful story truly comes to life in the location where it is actually set: on a mystical, deserted Island!
From the award-winning adventure-theatre company that brought you Frogs Under the Waterfront and Quarantine comes a large-scale adventure that you will never forget. With only six shows tickets will sell fast! So get in quick because you don’t want to miss this one!
Please note: for online sales, you are welcome to pick up your tickets from Circa Theatre prior to the show, however, a print out of your email confirmation will suffice.
The ferry will depart at 7.30pm and return at 10pm. Please arrive at Queen's Wharf by 7.20pm. Audience should be aware that there is a ten minute walk up a fairly steep hill. So they should wear sturdy shoes and bring a raincoat in case of rain.
Thank you for interest in A Tempest off Somes Island. Our current season is now sold out! But we would like everyone to have the opportunity to see the show, so we'll be extending the season for three nights: February 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
Unfortunately, with the Department of Conservation concession and the chartered ferry hire, the per night cost of this production is huge, and we only received outside funding for the initial 6 nights. As a result we'll have to charge an extra $9 per ticket for the extended season to make ends meet. Bard Productions is committed to keeping this kind of entertainment affordable, and we hope the price hike doesn't deter anyone.
Enjoy the show!
