Part of the 2016 New Zealand Festival Writers Week
Chaired by Emily Perkins
Panelists: Lorae Parry, Jess Sayer, Miria George, Lynda Chanwai-Earle
Stand Up & Be Counted
The Guardian UK’s list of the 101 Greatest Plays in any western language included only one woman (Caryl Churchill). Are New Zealand’s women playwrights as invisible?
It’s Circa’s 40th birthday and in true Circa tradition, New Zealand playwrights are centre stage. Circa will celebrate the 100+ New Zealand playwrights whose work has captivated audiences over the years in a Spotlight on Playwrights; from Roger Hall’s first play Glide Time in 1976 to Kate De Goldi’s The ACB with Honora Lee adapted for stage by Jane Waddell in 2016. There will be events, stimulating panel discussions, and a reading of Anthony McCarten’s new work funnygirl in which he dramatises his explosive novel – a plea for tolerance and freedom for individuals and art. A High Tea in honour of Circa stalwart Roger Hall will be hosted by Playmarket New Zealand.
Tickets can be reserved by calling 04 801 7992.
